“Generation Berlin” is a documentary exploring the underground
world of art, music and the sub-cultures of Berlin. The film reveals the
way of life among artists and their communities through location based
interviews.
Throughout history Berlin has been a Mecca for the avantgarde. The international
artists who have passed through Berlin embroider the city’s mystique.
From the Weimar era of Bertolt Brecht and scandalous sex clubs through
to artists and musicians including Rammstein, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Nina
Hagen, Nick Cave, and the Junge Wilde movement, the myth of Berlin as
a creative crucible continues.
How do the artists live and work in Berlin today? What factors affect
their lives and the ongoing systems that perpetuate here? With all the
creative riches it has to offer, has Berlin been taken for granted? We
will pose questions and follow where the subjects lead. We are not searching
for specific answers – this generation has it’s own stories to tell. It
is the colors of the individual threads, which will weave the tapestry
of “Generation Berlin”.
